NEW Global Business Support Concierge!

Reina Kuroki

Reina’s international experience began during her student years when she studied abroad at universities in the U.K. and the Philippines. After graduating, she joined a trading company in Tokyo, where she worked as an overseas sales representative, specializing in the export of steel products.

She then moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where she initially worked for a fashion e-commerce company before establishing her own business focused on exporting animal feed. In this role, she was responsible for all aspects of marketing and sales planning, including conducting market research, developing branding strategies, planning promotions, and overseeing the execution of marketing strategies.

Reina chose her current position because she believes in the power of business to create opportunities and drive societal progress. She empathizes with the challenges foreign entrepreneurs face, having personally navigated the difficulties of finding business partners, dealing with new products, and living abroad. Reflecting on her experiences, she notes how they contributed to her personal growth, for example learning French, which had a positive impact on both her business and personal life.

Her experiences of receiving support during these challenges, and sometimes wishing for more, motivate her to assist others in similar situations. With her diverse international experience, Reina is dedicated to helping foreign entrepreneurs thrive in Fukuoka, making the city an appealing destination for global talent and businesses.

Reina’s advice:

“I chose Fukuoka after living in several countries and Tokyo, and I have no regrets. I see great potential in Fukuoka, with its growing population and the influx of startups from Tokyo. I also believe Fukuoka can be a city that cultivates a global-local culture.”

Global Business Support First International Meetup!
「Bottoms Up」

The Bottoms Up event at Fukuoka Growth Next (FGN) on July 12, 2024, was a key initiative to re-bolster the local startup ecosystem in Fukuoka City. Organized by GBS and FGN in collaboration with local partners and the regional startup community (YOU!), the event served as a dynamic platform for networking, innovation, and business development.

Networking Sessions

Networking was a central feature of the event, providing participants with ample opportunities to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts in English and Japanese and sometimes both together! These sessions facilitated the exchange of ideas, fostering potential collaborations and partnerships. Attendees could share their experiences, learn from others, and build relationships that could support their business growth.

At GBS, we believe in the power of organic growth, and by providing opportunities where cross-cultural ideas can collide, we believe we are a catalyst for change and playing a part in the kinetic energy that is buzzing around Fukuoka City.

Pitch Presentations

A highlight of the event was the pitch presentations, where startups had the opportunity to showcase their business ideas to fellow entrepreneurs, industry professionals and government officials. This segment not only allowed startups to receive valuable feedback but also served as an avenue for business matching, attract potential investors, and general constructive feedback.

Refining your business plan is essential for keeping your startup focused and adaptable, ensuring you stay ahead of market changes and gaining business traction. This proactive approach boosts your potential for success by maximizing efficiency and mitigating risks.

UNQUOTE:

1. Why did you choose Fukuoka to start a business?

Anish believes the world economic gravity is shifting to Asia; therefore he looked for the gateway in East Asia for starting his business. Before coming to Fukuoka,  Anish traveled to several cities in both Japan and South Korea. In Japan, he started his travels from Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and others and finally came here to Fukuoka and he found that Fukuoka was a sweet spot for him; e.g. he was interested in a place which had its potential to become a metropolis in the future. He picked Fukuoka because he found Fukuoka as a good balance for quality of life between the countryside and the city. Anish highlights that Fukuoka has a diverse and friendly startup community, which reassured him that his decision to base in this vibrant city, Fukuoka, was right.

2. What are the biggest challenges your start-up faced so far?

Anish picked up two challenges; one is residence and the second is the marketing.

He just came to Fukuoka 10 days ago and he is a stranger here in Fukuoka so he is having a hard time finding an apartment where he can live.  He first needs to find an area where he wants to live, then an apartment which he can afford with a Japanese local real estate agent’s support.  It is of course new for him to deal with a Japanese local real estate agent which will be a big challenge for him for this relocation.

Secondly, he found that he needed patience for the marketing because he had to create a market with his new technology in a different culture and language. Currently Anish is exploring his business awareness in this Japanese market starting from Fukuoka. He needs to understand Japanese consumers better and come up with effective marketing strategies to attract potential clients and business partners.  Since his background of business is engineering, he eventually needs to find and hire the marketing specialist for this market for his product and solution. It will be one of his 2nd challenges.

Today his main objective is to shift people’s mindset from “They know nothing” to the point when “They need it”. He hopes that the change in perception of blockchain could positively affect his business and help him to find more B2B and B2C clients.

3. How is the Fukuoka and Japanese market different from all others?

Anish assumes that in comparison with Tokyo, Fukuoka represents “average Japan”. Combination of rural life and well developed city infrastructure makes  Fukuoka a very livable city that shows what Japanese people are like. Establishing your business in Fukuoka equips you with sufficient knowledge to succeed on the local market.

4. What are your current needs?

As was mentioned earlier, the main needs of the company are still related to marketing. Company strives to get a grasp of  the Japanese and local market. On the higher level they are trying to understand how to modify their software application, so it could reach and attract Japanese people. On top of that, after  the relocation one of the current needs of the newborn startup is to hire new developers.

Future Plans

Moreover, RONYN is looking for strategic partnerships with local companies.

As a potential development plan, the company considers the option of tokenization of loyalty coins for small stores. This could be a great tool   for small businesses to expand  and increase  their profitsThis would  In addition, they would like to integrate with chatting apps in the form of bots or marketplaces.  Anish plans to increase SME sales and loyalty customers as a success story for the Web 3.0 community.

There is no I in Fukuoka but there is a U!

Feel free to drop by anytime or shoot us a message. We look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on this exciting and wonderful journey.
