A new season, a new environment, and a brand-new challenge. Taking that first step is a major decision in itself—but what if that meant launching a business in a foreign land, separated by both language and culture? It’s a journey filled with as much anxiety as there is excitement.
But here in Fukuoka, you don’t have to face those hurdles alone. We have a community and a support system dedicated to empowering your vision. As the refreshing spring breeze sweeps through this April, Global Business Support (GBS) has also embarked on a new chapter with an enhanced team.
In this blog, we’ll share the unique essence of spring in Japan, the specialized support GBS offers, and our vision for the future of Fukuoka’s thriving startup scene!
Spring has arrived, bringing with it a fresh start. Are you enjoying the cherry blossoms in Fukuoka?

The harsh winter cold has finally faded, giving way to gentle sunlight and a refreshing spring breeze that sweeps through the city. How are you all enjoying this beautiful Japanese spring?
When we think of spring in Japan, “Sakura” (cherry blossoms) is naturally the first thing that comes to mind. Here in Fukuoka, famous spots like Maizuru Park and Ohori Park have been transformed into a sea of pale pink as the blossoms reach full bloom. One of the most wonderful traditions of this season is “Ohanami”—gathering under the illuminated trees at night to share a meal and relax with new friends from the startup community. It is a quintessential Japanese experience that fosters deep connections.
Spring brings a surge of positive energy, inspiring us all to “start something new.” It is the perfect time to refine your strategies and put those new business plans into action.
The entire GBS team sincerely hopes that—along with this pleasant spring breeze—your business moves forward with great momentum and your personal life is filled with joy and fulfillment. While starting a journey in a new city can be daunting, remember that Fukuoka’s warm and welcoming community is here to give you that gentle push forward.
April: The season of new beginnings in Japan.

For entrepreneurs operating globally, the start of the fiscal year varies depending on the country or company. However, did you know that in Japan, April holds an exceptionally special significance?
Traditionally, April marks the beginning of the new fiscal year for the national government, local municipalities, and the vast majority of corporations. It is a season brimming with energy, where society as a whole stands at a fresh starting line—epitomized by the sight of new graduates in crisp suits embarking on their careers.
From a strategic business perspective, April is also a critical turning point. Support organizations, including the Fukuoka City government, begin rolling out new subsidy programs (such as rent assistance for startups) and various support menus based on the new fiscal budget.
For startups looking to expand in the Japanese market, April is the “golden time,” offering a wealth of new information and opportunities. To ensure you can capitalize on this business cycle smoothly, the GBS team is committed to providing timely updates on the latest support resources available to you.
